Turning Sonar Data into Wearable Art

Uncovering History: WWII Plane Recovery Mission with NORBIT & Hungarian Defense Forces

Client: NORBIT | Industry: Marine Technology Goal: Create a high-impact product launch video showcasing the WBMS X’s interchangeable components in an exciting, visually compelling way. Role: Creative Director, Animator, Editor The Challenge: NORBIT needed a visually engaging way to introduce the WBMS X, a cutting-edge sonar system with a unique modular design. The key challenge was to effectively demonstrate the interchangeability of components and the survey process, ensuring potential customers could quickly grasp the product’s advantages. The Process: To bring the WBMS X’s innovation to life, I developed a multi-layered creative approach. - Created detailed 3D animations to visually deconstruct the product, allowing viewers to see the internal components and how they interconnect. - Focused on fluid transitions and precision animation to communicate engineering excellence. - Led videography direction, ensuring real-life product footage captured the WBMS X in action. - Designed and animated motion graphics overlays to highlight key product benefits. - Combined technical storytelling with an engaging visual narrative to maintain audience interest. The Impact: Successful product launch-the video played a pivotal role in introducing the WBMS X to the market. Generated high-quality sales leads, helping position NORBIT as an industry innovator. Elevated brand perception through a sleek, high-production-value promotional video.

Client: NORBIT | Industry: Marine Technology Goal: Design an eye-catching yet wearable t-shirt that promotes the NORBIT brand to a wider audience. Role: Illustrator The Challenge: NORBIT wanted a t-shirt design that would not only grab attention at industry events but also be stylish enough for people to wear beyond the conference floor. The challenge was to create something unique and visually striking using the WINGHEAD sonar’s shark-inspired logo and bathymetric data, while ensuring the design felt natural on apparel. The Process: To craft a bold yet wearable design, I took a multi-step approach. - Explored multiple design directions, aiming to balance technical accuracy with artistic appeal. - Developed a narrative-driven composition, settling on an image of a shipwreck resting on the seafloor, surrounded by sharks, reinforcing the brand’s oceanic and sonar technology themes. - Collaborated with NORBIT’s surveyors and technical teams to source authentic sonar data of a shipwreck. - Transformed raw sonar imagery into an illustrated design, preserving the scientific integrity while enhancing visual impact. The Impact: High demand for the t-shirts at major industry conferences. Conference attendees organically promoted NORBIT by wearing the design throughout events, extending brand reach. Increased public brand recognition, helping NORBIT stand out in the marine technology space.

Client: NORBIT | Industry: Marine Technology, Military History Goal: Transform raw footage from a WWII plane recovery mission into a compelling, historically accurate narrative video, showcasing the involvement of the Hungarian Defense Forces, Military History Institute, and NORBIT sonar technology. Role: Video Editor, Animator, Motion Graphics Artist The Challenge: This project required crafting a coherent and engaging story from a mix of raw footage, historical references, and technical data. Key challenges included: 1. Reconstructing the Story – Piecing together the sequence of events from the recovery mission, ensuring historical and technical accuracy. 2. Blending Different Visual Elements – Merging modern-day mission footage with historical battle context while maintaining a seamless visual flow. 3. Creating Engaging, Historically Accurate Animation – Using period-accurate references to recreate the WWII air battle in a compelling way. The Process: To bring the mission to life, I took a research-driven, storytelling-first approach. - Conducted meetings with the Hungarian NORBIT surveyor to accurately sequence the retrieval process and military involvement. - Researched the specific WWII air battle, the plane type, and the mission’s historical context to ensure factual accuracy. - Carefully structured the footage into a clear, emotionally engaging narrative that honored the mission’s significance. - Sourced and integrated archive footage to immerse viewers in the era, providing crucial historical context. - Applied color grading and sound design to enhance the cinematic feel and evoke the intensity of the original battle. The Impact: Most-watched video on NORBIT Subsea’s YouTube channel, with 42K+ views. Widespread engagement, bringing global attention to a remarkable archaeological and military recovery effort. Strengthened NORBIT’s brand visibility in historical preservation and marine archaeology, reinforcing the importance of sonar technology in exploration.

Ocean Exploration with Saildrone & NORBIT

Clients: NORBIT & Saildrone | Industry: Marine Technology, Autonomous Vehicles Goal: Showcase how NORBIT sonar is an ideal payload for Saildrone's unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) while also highlighting Saildrone’s technology and mission in a visually compelling way. Role: Director, Videographer, Editor, Motion Graphics Artist The Challenge: NORBIT and Saildrone needed a visually stunning, high-engagement video to demonstrate how their technologies work together. The challenge was twofold: 1. Technical Clarity – The video had to effectively communicate the mounting capabilities of NORBIT sonar on a USVwithout overwhelming the audience with complexity. 2. On-Location Filming Constraints – Shooting on-site in San Francisco, adapting to unpredictable weather (including filming on a boat in pouring rain) while working with a small crew and a tight deadline. The Process: To craft an engaging, high-production-value video, I employed a strategic approach. - Directed and filmed at Saildrone's headquarters in San Francisco, ensuring stunning visuals of both the USV in action and its integration with NORBIT sonar. - Captured dynamic footage in challenging environments, including boat-based filming under adverse weather conditions. - Designed and integrated tracking text motion graphics to clarify key product benefits and technical specifications without disrupting the visual flow. - Used precise shot composition and pacing to maintain engagement while educating viewers. - Carefully edited footage to ensure a seamless narrative that balanced technical detail with visual impact. - Applied color grading and sound design to enhance the cinematic feel of the video. The Impact: Boosted awareness of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and their game-changing impact on the survey industry. Highlighted NORBIT as the preferred sonar payload, reinforcing its versatility and market positioning. Increased engagement with compelling storytelling and high-quality visuals, helping both NORBIT and Saildrone strengthen their brand presence.
